At ILA, Safran Electronics & Defense Germany announces its biggest single call-off of JIM Compact infrared binoculars for the Bundeswehr.
It was the procurement highlight of the supplier segment: at ILA Berlin 2026, Safran Electronics & Defense Germany announced the largest single order in its history, a call-off of more than 1,000 JIM Compact infrared binoculars for the Bundeswehr. The basis is a framework contract for 2,500 units, valued at around 275 million euros.
The JIM Compact is a multifunctional infrared binocular for reconnaissance and target location, an inconspicuous device with a big effect for troops. That the record call-off was announced at the show illustrates ILA's character as a procurement platform: users and manufacturers meet here, while the systems can be tried out at the stand.

Safran also used the show week for an investment signal: almost 50 million euros will go into a new centre of excellence in Ludwigsburg for fibre-optic gyroscopes and navigation technology. For ILA's supplier segment, that is the real message: suppliers are not supporting actors here, they close their biggest deals.
