The summit meeting of aviation: 4th Berlin Aviation Summit (BAS) kicks off ILA 2024 on 4 June

The Berlin Aviation Summit on 4 June at the Axica by the Brandenburg Gate provides answers to these questions.

How can aviation achieve CO2-neutral flying by 2050? What progress has already been made, and which challenges still need to be mastered? And how can politics, industry and research work together effectively to bring the energy transition to the skies? The Berlin Aviation Summit on 4 June at the Axica by the Brandenburg Gate provides answers to these questions. Traditionally held on the day before ILA opens, the BAS has established itself as the international platform for the future of aviation.
In front of more than 300 invited guests, leading figures from politics, research, industry, aviation, finance and energy will exchange ideas under the banner of "Pioneering Sustainable Aviation" and shape the future of the industry.
German politics is represented at the highest level, including contributions by the Federal Ministers for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and for Digital and Transport, Dr Robert Habeck MdB and Dr Volker Wissing MdB, as well as Minister of State at the Federal Chancellery Sarah Ryglewski MdB, Parliamentary State Secretary at the BMDV Oliver Luksic MdB, and the Federal Government Coordinator of German Aerospace Policy, Dr Anna Christmann MdB.
The numerous international CEOs discussing the transformation of air transport towards climate compatibility in the high-calibre programme include Guillaume Faury (Airbus), David Calhoun (Boeing), Olivier Andriès (Safran) and the President of the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI), Dr Michael Schöllhorn.
Dr Robert Habeck, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of the Federal Republic of Germany: "Aviation is a key technology and a guarantor of prosperity and jobs in Europe. At the same time, decarbonisation poses challenges for the sector. The Federal Government has set itself the goal of making Germany a pioneer in climate-neutral flying. This can only succeed if we maintain our leading position in aviation research and drive innovation in environmentally friendly propulsion technologies. To this end, it is important to engage in regular exchange with the industry and its experts from around the world."
Dr Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital and Transport: "Air transport will continue to grow in importance. It is therefore essential to make this mode of transport climate-friendly and thus fit for the future. We need to set the course for this now. With a solid legal framework and openness to innovation and technology, we can find the best solutions for affordable, climate-compatible flying while ensuring fair competition. Exchange between industry, research and politics is particularly important here, and the Berlin Aviation Summit provides a valuable forum for it."
Dr Michael Schöllhorn, President of BDLI: "We are delighted that the Berlin Aviation Summit has established itself as the ideal platform for close and focused exchange between industry leaders and government representatives. This joint effort is essential, because time is pressing if we are to achieve our ambitious goals. Above all, we need reliable and powerful research funding and the right regulatory framework, for example for the ramp-up of alternative fuels, while at the same time limiting further bureaucratic burdens."
The BAS is organised by BDLI and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Partners of the conference are the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and the European Commission. The BAS takes place every two years on the day before ILA, which opens its doors at BER Airport from 5 to 9 June 2024 as this year's largest aerospace trade show in the EU.
